MANOR, TX — A pedestrian died early Friday after being hit by a Manor police patrol vehicle on U.S. 290, according to the Manor Police Department. The crash happened just after 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes near Gregg Manor Road.
Police said the officer was driving westbound when the patrol vehicle struck a man walking in the left westbound lane. Officers at the scene provided emergency aid, including CPR, but the man was pronounced dead there.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity while next-of-kin notifications are pending. Police also said the officer involved will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
Police say man may have been intoxicated before the crash
Manor police said a preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian may have been intoxicated. Officials did not offer further details about what led the man to be walking in the travel lane or whether any other factors may have contributed.
The department has not said whether the patrol vehicle was responding to a call at the time or whether emergency lights or sirens were in use. Those details are part of the continuing investigation.

Westbound US 290 closed while investigators worked the scene
Westbound lanes of U.S. 290 were shut down between Gregg Manor Road and State School Road during the investigation. That closure affected traffic on a major corridor through the Manor area in the early morning hours.
Police did not say how long the lanes remained closed, but the scene drew a response from several agencies. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office Highway Enforcement and Accident Team, Texas Department of Public Safety, Austin-Travis County EMS and Travis County Emergency Services District 12 all assisted.

Officer placed on paid leave as department reviews the collision
The officer who was driving the patrol vehicle will be placed on paid administrative leave while the case is investigated, Manor police said. The department did not identify the officer involved.
